Why do I need to know how big is my aquarium and how to calculate its tank volume?
Knowing the size of your aquarium and volume of water it holds is important, as it provides you an idea as to how much water conditioner or medicine you need to dose based on the tank volume, thus preventing overdose of certain chemical which might be harmful to the live stocks in it.
The volume of the fish tank is calculated by multiplying its length, width and height of your aquarium water in centimeter (cm), then divide it by 1,000.
The photo below is a simple illustration of the formula to calculate the tank volume:

Let’s say, you have a 60cm by 30 cm tank, and it’s height is 30cm, but your water level height is just 20cm, the volume would be 60cm(L) x 30cm(W) x 20cm(H) /1000, equals to 36L.
Total volume the tank can hold = Length (cm) x Width (cm) x Height (cm) ÷ 1,000
